Prize bundle for Video Week: Random Magic

First edition copy of Random Magic, by Sasha Soren

About: When absent-minded Professor Random misplaces the main character from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, young Henry Witherspoon must book-jump to fetch Alice before chaos theory kicks in and the world vanishes.

Along the way he meets Winnie Flapjack, a wit-cracking doodle witch with nothing to her name but a magic feather and a plan.

Such as it is.

Henry and Winnie brave the Dark Queen, whatwolves, pirates, StrĂŒths, and fluttersmoths, Priscilla and Charybdis, obnoxiously cheerful vampires, Baron Samedi, a nine-dimensional cat, and one perpetually inebriated Muse to rescue Alice and save the world by tea time.

Absinthe gumballs

About: Chew some of these absinthe gumballs as you read the plays of Oscar Wilde, recite the poetry of Charles Baudelaire or admire the paintings of Vincent van Gogh.

All were notorious imbibers of absinthe and most certainly would have loved these delicious anise-flavored gumballs if they were available in their day. Each 3-1/4" x 2-1/2" x 3/4" (8.3 cm x 6.4 cm x 1.9 cm) tin contains 22 gumballs.

Adorable rag doll for literary lovers - Edgar Allan Poe

About: Gothic grandmaster Edgar Allan Poe was loved for his ghastly stories, creepy characters, and dreamy poems.

Poe does actually appear (briefly) as a character in Random Magic. Nevermore, that enigmatic and well-read companion of Callie, the firstborn of the Nine Muses, gets his name from a poem by Poe, 'The Raven.' (Nevermore and Callie are characters in Random Magic.)

You can win this charming rag doll version of the great writer, himself. Let this cute little fellow keep you company on a midnight dreary, while you ponder, weak and weary, over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore...

More about Poe: Biography and tidbits

Please note: Offer is for the doll, only. The book shown in the image above is a prop from promo photo for this doll, and is not included as part of the prize. The doll, however, does arrive with a miniature raven perched on one shoulder, as shown in the photo.

Alice in Wonderland and Philosophy: Curiouser and Curiouser

About: The story told in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has fascinated children and adults alike for generations. Why does Lewis Carroll introduce us to such oddities as blue caterpillars who smoke hookahs, cats whose grins remain after their heads have faded away, and a White Queen who lives backwards and remembers forwards?

Is it all just nonsense? Was Carroll under the influence? This book probes the deeper underlying meaning in the Alice books, and reveals an off-kilter world rich with philosophical life lessons.

The book looks at compelling issues such as perception and reality, as well as how logic fares in a world of lunacy, the Mad Hatter, clocks, and time, offering new insights into your favorite Alice in Wonderland characters and scenes, including the Mad Hatter and his tea party, the violent Queen of Hearts, and the grinning Cheshire Cat.

Accessible and entertaining, Alice in Wonderland and Philosophy will enrich your experience of Alice's timeless adventures with new meaning and fun. Random Magic, of course, has a strong link to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland; in fact, the entire Random Magic adventure begins when Alice is accidentally misplaced by absent-minded Professor Random.
